Eagles Volunteer in Vietnam with Coach for College

This summer, while some Boston College student-athletes remained on campus to take classes or work out, or other had internships in their future fields, several other past and present BC student-athletes traveled halfway around the world to Vietnam to volunteer with Coach for College.
Kelly McGrath '15, who graduated from Boston College days before departing, chronicled her trip to Vietnam. Other BC student-athletes who participated this year included Kelly Barnum '15 (volleyball), Franny Hock '16 (volleyball), Madisen Lydon '17 (volleyball), Stephanie Ng '15 (swimming) and James Zingarini '16 (track and field).

Coach for College is a service learning program that brings together US student-athletes and Vietnamese university students to teach academics, sports and life skills at summer camps to children in rural Vietnam. The program has five goals:
- Increased concern for others
- Increased cultural competency
- Development of global perspective
- Increased self-efficacy
- Increased sense of purpose in life.
