May 03, 2015 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 5 seed Boston College women's lacrosse team will host the first two rounds of the 2015 NCAA Tournament at the Newton Sports Complex on Friday, May 8 and Sunday, May 10. The Eagles earn a first round bye and will play the winner of Loyola Maryland (15-4) vs. Bryant (14-4) on Sunday.
"We feel very fortunate to be playing in the playoffs and hosting at BC. This year All 26 teams are excellent and it's going to be an exciting couple of weeks. Personally I feel very excited to be entering the playoffs with this group of girls. We have had an exciting year and now it's time to buckle down and get to work," said head coach Acacia Walker.
This is the third consecutive season the Eagles have earned an at-large tournament berth. It is the second time the program has hosted NCAA Tournament games, as BC was also a first and second round host last year. BC enters this year's tournament at its highest ever seed.
BC is 3-0 against Bryant all-time, most recently defeating the Bulldogs, 17-9, in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament in Newton, Mass. The Eagles are 1-0 against Loyola Maryland in the series history, downing the Greyhounds in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament on home turf.
Boston College finished the 2015 regular season with a program-best 15-3 record. The Eagles downed five teams ranked in the top-20, including taking down No. 2 Syracuse on Feb. 28 and No. 2 UNC on Mar. 21.
The Eagles have made three previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, Boston College advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history, falling to Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.
In 2013, the Eagles lost at Dartmouth, 11-8, in a first round game on the road in New Hampshire. In 2011, BC lost to second-seeded Northwestern, 11-8, in a first-round matchup on the Wildcats' Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.
Walker has led Boston College to the NCAA Tournament in each of her three years as a head coach at the Heights. She will take part in the tournament for the 13th time in the last 14 years as either a player or coach.
Seven of the eight ACC institutions that compete in DI women's lacrosse earned berths to the NCAA Tournament: #2 North Carolina, #3 Duke, #4 Syracuse, #5 Boston College, #7 Virginia, Notre Dame and Louisville.
