Men's Hoops Adds Barnes-Thompkins To 2015 Class

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College men's basketball has added Phoenix, Ariz., product Sammy Barnes-Thompkins to its 2015 recruiting class, announced today by head coach Jim Christian.
"I am very excited to add Sammy Barnes-Thompkins to our 2015 recruiting class," Christian said. "He is a prolific scorer who is a great compliment to our signing class. Sammy is a very competitive player who comes from an outstanding family and fits well into the culture we are developing here at Boston College."
Barnes-Thompkins is a 6-3, 185-pound shooting guard out of Sunnyslope High School. He is rated the No. 3 shooting guard in Arizona by 247Sports. Barnes-Thompkins scored 32 points against Findlay Prep, one of the top programs in the nation, this past season.
Barnes-Thompkins, one of the top scorers in the state of Arizona, averaged 22.3 points as a junior. He shot 51 percent from the floor, 35 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the free-throw line. He was a first team all-state selection as a junior.
Barnes-Thompkins was a Reebok Breakout Camp invitee in Philadelphia and he was a Pangos All-American Camp all-star after ranking second in the camp in scoring. In his senior year, he scored 40 points in the second half of a game against Cesar Chavez.
Gary Thompkins, Sammy's father, was a guard on the 1986 Iowa State team that reached the NCAA Sweet 16. Barnes-Thompkins played his AAU basketball with Arizona Magic.
