Hanifin Named New England All-Star
April 07, 2015 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON - Freshman Noah Hanifin was honored as a New England Division I All-Star, earning one of four defensive spots according to an announcement made by the New England Hockey Writers' Association on Tuesday, April 7.
The first-year blue liner was only one of two freshmen to earn All-New England distinction, as Boston University's Jack Eichel was tabbed as an All-New England selection at the forward position.
Tuesday's honor marks Hanifin's third post-season award of 2014-15. Hockey East not only tabbed the highly-touted newcomer as a unanimous selection for the All-Rookie Team, but also pegged him a Second Team All-Star.
The Hanover, Mass., native notched five goals and 18 assists in his season debut as an Eagle. His 18 helpers (0.50 apg) ranked second amongst all BC skaters upon season's end and finished the year tied for 23rd in points amongst all Hockey East skaters.
Amongst all defensemen nationally, Hanifin's 0.64 points per game was the 21st-best mark amongst his position upon conclusion of the regular season and tied for eighth amongst league constituents.
Against all other first-year skaters, Hanifin was 22nd in scoring and tied for eighth amongst Hockey East rookies. The NHL prospect registered six multi-point performances this year and tied for the club's third-best plus/minus rating of +15.
With Hanifin's award, Boston College has now had at least one delegate placed on the All-New England Team dating back to 1998.
Along with Hanifin's selection, the rest of the New England Division I All-Star team was comprised of six forwards (Quinnipiac's Sam Anas, Eichel, Bentley's Andrew Gladiuk, Boston University's Evan Rodrigues, Northeastern's Kevin Roy and Harvard's Jimmy Vesey), three defensemen (Boston University's Matt Grzelyck, Yale's Rob O'Gara and Vermont's Mike Paliotta) and two goaltenders (Providence's Jon Gillies and Yale's Alex Lyon).
The New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star teams and awards have been finalized after tallying votes from all Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England.
This year's banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The reception will start at 6 p.m. with the award ceremony to follow at 7:30 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala.
