Three Eagles Finalists for Patty Kazmaier Award

Top Ten Finalists
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's hockey players Alex Carpenter, Emily Pfalzer, and Haley Skarupa have been voted into the top 10 finalists for the 2015 Patty Kazmaier Award.
An award of The USA Hockey Foundation, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. Other selection criteria include outstanding individual and team skills, sportsmanship, performance in the clutch, personal character, competitiveness and a love of hockey. Consideration is also given to academic achievement and civic involvement.
Carpenter (31-40-71), a junior forward from North Reading, Mass. is having a year to remember, leading the nation in nearly every offensive category for the entirety of the 2014-15 season:

- Points per game: 2.29
- Goals: 31
- Goals per game: 1.00
- Assists: 40
- Assists per game: 1.29
- Game-winning goals: 7
With her 71st point against No. 6 Boston University on Feb. 21, Carpenter broke her own BC single-season points record, which she set in 2012-13 with 70 points. Her 71 points is the highest point total in all of Division I ice hockey this year. The North Reading, Mass. native established a program record with her 25-game point streak from Oct. 4 through Feb. 3, during which time she amassed 62 points. In addition to earning Hockey East Player of the Week honors three times (Dec. 15, Jan. 19 and Feb. 16), Carpenter was named WHEA Player of the Month in October and November.

Pfalzer, a senior defenseman from Getzville, N.Y., is making history in the Boston College record books with her performance this season.
Pfalzer is the nation's leading scorer as a defenseman with 1.27 points per game from 38 points (7 goals, 31 assists). Her scoring prowess isn't limited to greatness among defensemen: Pfalzer is ranked 12th nationally overall in points per game. Pfalzer is the only defensemen among the top 40 players nationally in points per game. The senior captain is fourth in the nation overall with 1.03 assists per game. Pfalzer is third on the 2014-15 Eagle squad with 38 points on seven goals and 31 assists. Her 98 career points and 76 career points are the most among all defensemen in Boston College history and she is two points shy of becoming the first blueliner in BC history to reach 100 points. Pfalzer has earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season (November 24 and January 12).

Junior forward Haley Skarupa has forged her way to the tops of the offensive rankings while putting together a season of personal bests.
Skarupa is averaging 1.97 points per game on the nation's top offense. Her 0.90 goals per game are second in the country while her 1.06 assists per game rank third overall. The junior has posted a career-high 61 points on 28 goals and 33 assists through 31 games. A two-way player, Skarupa owns the team's best plus-minus this season, a plus-57 rating. The junior forward has come through in clutch moments for the Eagles this season: her six game-winners are tied for fourth nationally. Skarupa, in addition to earning Hockey East Player of the Week on Dec. 1, was tabbed WHEA Player of the Month in December.

BC'S PATTY KAZMAIER HISTORY
Carpenter, Pfalzer, and Skarupa's selection as finalists are the most Boston College has had in the top 10.
Carpenter was also a top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2013. Former BC goaltender Molly Schaus and former Eagle forward Kelli Stack were named top 10 finalists for the honor in 2011. Schaus was the first Eagle to ever be named finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2009.
Associate head coach Courtney Kennedy, a former defenseman at the University of Minnesota, was a top three finalist for the accolade in 2001.
Since its inception in 1998, no Boston College player has ever received the Patty Kazmaier Award.
