Westphal Dazzles at BU Valentine
February 15, 2015 | Women's Track & Field
Boston, MA—The Eagles travelled to Boston University this weekend for one of the most anticipated meets of the indoor season, the Boston University Valentine. Many personal records were set; however, the afternoon was dominated by a career performance by Liv Westphal.
Westphal took part in the 3000 meters, her signature event. She got out to a quick start, leading the pack for the majority of the race. Westphal finished with a time of 9:08.99, setting a new Boston College record.
The record was previously held by Shannon Smith, who set the record in 2001 and went on to win the NCAA title that year. Westphal finished fourth overall but was the fastest collegiate time by nearly eight seconds.
Claudia DiSomma continued her stellar start to the season with another personal record in the 500 meters and earning her a sixth place finish.
DiSomma recorded a time of 1:14.29, nearly four seconds faster than her previous record that she set last year at the Brown University Invitational.
Senior Katherine O’Keefe set a new personal record in the mile with a time of 4:53.68, shaving eight-tenths of a second off her previous record set a the BU Terrier Invite last season. O’Keefe’s time qualifies her for the mile at the ACC Indoors later this month.
The Eagles look forward to sending representatives to the ACC Indoors at Virginia Tech starting on February 26th.
