Half-Year Highlights
December 18, 2015 | Women's Hockey
It’s been a great first half for the women’s hockey team.
It's been a great first half for the women's hockey team.
Â
When the team reassembles after the holiday break, the Eagles will hit the second half of the schedule as the country's lone perfect team with a 20-0-0 record. BC is just the second team in NCAA women's hockey championship history to reach the winter break with a perfect record, joining the 2012-13 Minnesota team.
Â
BC is ranked No. 1 in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, claiming almost every single first-place vote. The Eagles have set an NCAA record for both consecutive home wins (38 games) and longest home undefeated streak (44 games), both streaks dating back to the 2013-14 season.
Â
While Alex Carpenter leads the nation in both scoring (49 points) and points per game (2.45), Haley Skarupa is tied for second in points (39) and sixth in points per game (1.95). Carpenter leads the nation in goals (27), and Skarupa is tied for second in assists (25). Both have helped the Eagles claim the nation's second-best offense (5.55 goals per game), while a total of eight Eagles have collected at least 20 points – and 13 players have at least 13 points.
Â
Defensively, the Eagles are third in the nation allowing just 1.20 goals per game. Katie Burt is tied for second nationally in goals against average (1.04), save percentage (.954) and shutouts (7), and leads the country in winning percentage (1.000).
Â
Megan Keller leads all defensemen nationally in goals (7), points (24) and points per game (1.20), while Lexi Bender (20 points) is ranked fourth in points per game and Kali Flanagan (0.95) is sixth. They comprise half the defensive unit that has helped establish BC as one of the stingiest teams in the country.
Â
But that's just three months of work for BC.
Â
Starting Jan. 9, the Eagles still have 11 more Hockey East games to play, as well as a non-conference match-up against No. 9 Harvard at the Bright Center, as well as a pair of Beanpot games. Then – so long as the season continues well – the postseason lies ahead.Â
