BC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
• Boston College has won 11 of its first 12 games of the season, including winners of its last 10. The Eagles 11-1 start to the 2015-16 ledger marks the best start under a Jerry York club on The Heights. With Tuesday night's win, Boston College is off to its best start in program history since the Eagles' first national title team in 1949. The 1948-49 national championship squad started the season 10-0 before lost at Dartmouth on Jan. 27, 1949. BC did not lose again that year, posting a 21-1 mark, culminating in the first national trophy on The Heights under Snooks Kelley. Kelley's 1940-41 team lost its first game at Yale on Dec, 14, 1940 before the Eagles rattled off the next 13 victories to cap a 13-1 season.
• Following the UConn victory, Boston College has both the top-ranked offensive unit (4.42 gpg) along with the stingiest defensive corps (1.17 gpg) in all of college hockey. BC's scoring margin of +3.25 is three-quarters of a goal better than the next-closest team, St. Cloud State (+2.50).
• Nov. 24, 2015 marked Boston College's first-ever win at Connecticut in program history.
• Colin White has recorded a multi-point performance in his last three outings, notching a goal and two assists in the 5-1 win at UConn. The Hanover, Mass., native's tally stands as his first-career game-winning goal as White is now the fifth most prolific scorer in all of college hockey, averaging 1.67 points per game (7-13-20). White is in the midst of a seven-game point streak.
• Matthew Gaudreau is also in the midst of a career-best seven game point streak, tallying an empty-net goal with 58 seconds left in regulation. Gaudreau has accounted for three goals and six assists over the course of that stretch.
• Miles Wood tallied his third-straight multi-point performance with a goal and an assist at UConn and is now tied for 12th, nationally, in scoring with 1.33 points per game.
• Josh Couturier scored his first-career goal in his 11th-career game.
TURNING POINT
• The Eagles netted four goals in the first half of the first period and never looked back. Austin Cangelosi set the tempo with a marker at 2:54 into the contest as BC never trailed in its 10th-consecutive victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles wasted no time setting the standard, lighting the lamp four times within the first 11 minutes from four different scorers.
Austin Cangelosi benefitted from a scrum in front of UConn netminder Rob Nichols, bashing back a rebound from Christopher Brown. Miles Wood generated BC's first scoring play by tossing the puck on net from in tight, creating the pile in UConn's crease. After a couple whacks, Cangelosi's effort at 2:54 put the Eagles on the board early.
Fifty seconds later, Colin White capped a 3-on-1 rush for the Eagles after Teddy Doherty blocked a shot and turned it up ice to Ryan Fitzgerald on BC's blue line. Boston College rushed it towards the Huskies end and Fitzgerald connected with White on the near post for the tic-tac-toe goal at 3:44 and a 2-0 lead.
At 8:53, Josh Couturier dialed up his first-career marker with a hard rip from the top of the slot. R. Fitzgerald and White worked the puck around the zone and an unmarked Couturier blasted the disc past Nichols for the three-goal cushion.
Miles Wood was the Eagles' fourth goal scorer of the frame after he went top shelf on Nichols from the top of the right circle. Casey Fitzgerald bestowed Wood with the puck unbothered and the rookie unleashed a precise slapshot at 10:49 to cap the first period with a 4-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the second period but the Huskies showed signs of life, outshooting Boston College, 13-9, but UConn upheld its momentum and broke its scoreless string at 1:25 of the third period.
Spencer Naas corralled a Tage Thompson attempt in the right slot and wristed it past Demko to make it a 4-1 contest.
To avoid any thoughts of a Connecticut comeback, head coach Jerry York hailed for a timeout with 11:12 remaining in regulation. Following the breather, the Eagles limited UConn's chances and Matthew Gaudreau iced the contest with an empty netter from the slot at 19:02 for the 5-1 victory.
