Five Set To Join Eagles Rowing For 2016-17 Season

All five new rowers signed NLI's during NCAA early signing period
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - The Boston College women's rowing team and head coach Steve Fiske have announced that five athletes have signed their national letters of intent to join the Eagles for the 2016-2017 season. Each individual signed their national letters of intent during the NCAA early signing period, which ran from November 11-18. These five athletes will look to fill the gap left by the five seniors who will be graduating in May 2016.
Joining the Eagles beginning in Fall 2016 will be Alli May, Becca Karjian, Isabelle Wyerman, Maddy Prince and Natalie Cortopassi.
Head coach Steve Fiske said of these five athletes joining the Boston College rowing program: "We are excited to start building our BC Rowing Class of 2020 with these five athletes. Becca Karjian and Maddy Prince will bring a lot of experience to our team; Becca is in her sixth year of competitive rowing and Maddy is an accomplished sculler. Alli May will bring a strong work ethic from both her high school program and her summer on the Junior National High Performance Team while Isabelle Wyerman is a strong rower with tons of passion and enthusiasm. Natalie Cortopassi is relatively new to rowing, but has shown incredible progress and potential that will allow her to succeed here at Boston College. We are looking forward to having these five new members join our program and are excited to see how they will help our program grow."

Alli May | Simsbury, Conn. | Starboard
Alli May joins the Eagles after competing as a member of the Simsbury High School Crew team and USRowing Junior National High Performance Team. May, a starboard, will add to the team's depth as a member of the Varsity 8+ squad. Her most notable accomplishments include placing third in the Women's Intermediate 8+ at the 2015 USRowing Club National Championships and placing first in the 2014 Connecticut Public School State Championships as a member of the 1st Varsity 8+ boat. As to her reason for choosing BC, May said, "I felt that I fit in very well with the team dynamic, and couldn't see myself going anywhere else"
Becca Karjian | Seattle, Wash. | Port
Becca Karjian comes to the Heights from across the country after having last rowed for Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle. As a port, she has seen action in both the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ competition. In six years of rowing, Karjian has twice competed at the USRowing Youth Nationals, placing as high as eighth as a member of the V4+ in 2014. In the regional level, she took first in the NorthWest regional championship as member of the third Varsity Eight boat (2013) and the JV8 and JV4 boats (2014). Most recently, she added a third place finish in the NW region in 2015 as a membber of the Varsity Eight squad.
Isabelle Wyerman | McLean, Va. | Starboard
Isabelle Wyerman comes to Boston College after competing for the McLean High School Crew Club out of the Thompson Boat Center on the Potomac River course. A starboard for McLean, she captained the team that took second place at the Virginia State Championships in the First Varsity Eight boat and Sixth Place at te SRAA Nationals in the same event. She has also competed on the Eagles home course during the Head of the Charles Regatta, in which her team placed 14th in the First Varsity 8 event. Isabelle Wyerman said, "I chose Boston College because of the great crew team as well as the numerous academic opportunities it offers. Boston College is both academically rigorous and athletically challenging. It offers a welcoming home to students from across the country and there is no better place to row than Boston."
Maddy Prince | Centerport, NY | Port/Scull
Maddy Prince will be an added addition to the Eagles roster in 2016-2017 season at the port and scull position. As a member of the Long Island Rowing Club, Prince owns top-10 finishes in Women's High School 1x at the 2015 Head of the Schuylkill and the Kings Head Regatta. She also Placed third in the B Final of Women's Youth 2x at 2015 Youth Nationals and 4th in the B final of WOmen's Youth 2x at the 2014 Youth Nationals. She credits the Head of the Charles Regatta as a reason she wanted to go to school in Boston.
Natalie Cortopassi | Stockton, Calif. | Starboard/ Scull
Natalie Cortopassi is the second signee from the West Coast. Previously a member of River City Rowing CLub and Penn Athletic Club Rowing Association, Natalie also captained the schools volleyball team. She said of BC, "I first visited the campus before I started rowing and I fell in love with the campus and the city that surrounds it. So when it came to picking where I wanted to row, it was an easy choice."

Before these five new members arrive next fall, the women's rowing team will have an exciting season of competition this spring. The team begins their competitive season March 19, 2016 when they travel to New Jersey for a tri-meet with Saint Joseph's and UPenn on the Cooper River course.
Joining the Eagles beginning in Fall 2016 will be Alli May, Becca Karjian, Isabelle Wyerman, Maddy Prince and Natalie Cortopassi.
