HIGHLIGHTS
For the fourth time this season, both Katty Workman and Sol Calvete registered double-doubles in the same game, but the effort wasn't enough as the Eagle fell short, 3-1, at Duke on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Duke opened the game on a 5-0 run and led by as much as six through the first half of the set enroute to winning 25-16. BC attempted to stage a comeback, pulling within two points at 12-10, but a 7-2 run to close out the opening frame propelled the Blue Devils to a 25-16 score and a 1-0 advantage.
Set Two:
The Eagles evened the score at one in the second set as they broke away from a back-and-forth battle between the two squads to take the second set 25-19. After a Duke service error gave BC a two-point lead in the frame at 7-5, three straight kills from McKenna Goss, Kam McLain and Sol Calvete extended the BC lead to five. McLain and Colvete each tallied two more kills before Katty Workman finished off the Blue Devils with one of her XXX kills on the afternoon as the two teams were all-square entering the break.
Set Three:
BC and Duke swapped each of the first 12 points as the two teams saw six tied scores early in the third set. The score would remain close as the BC trailed by only two heading into the halfway mark of the set, but Duke extended their lead to five at 20-15 after BC committed two straight attack errors. The Eagles cut the deficit to one, courtesy of two Blue Devil attack errors forced by the BC defense, but a 4-1 run halted the comeback effort in the third set, as Duke won 25-21.
Set Four:
Duke jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead as the hosts cruised to victory in the fourth set, 25-15.
UP NEXT:
With four games remaining in 2015, BC will travel to Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech for their last two road games before returning home for two day games Thanksgiving week at Power Gym to close out the season.
