Junior wins two matches Tuesday with hopes to move to main draw

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Junior Lexi Borr won both her opening matches at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships qualifying bracket on Tuesday, advancing to the final round of qualifying Wednesday with an opportunity to gain a spot in main draw.

Borr opened the tournament with a tough three-set win over Karla Popovic, a sophomore from Cal. Borr claimed the 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win over the sophomore who's ranked No. 64 nationally.

In her second match, Borr defeated fellow ACC competitor Illinca Stoica, a senior from Virginia Tech. Boor claimed the 6-2, 6-3 win, setting up a match against Georgia senior Silvia Garcia, who's ranked No. 58 nationally, on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Borr teamed with sophomore Asiya Dair in the double qualifying bracket, but dropped a close 8-6 decision to TCU's tandem of Seda Arantekin and Marie Norris, who are ranked No. 40 nationally.

Borr is set to face Garcia at 11:45 am PT on Wednesday. The winner will advance to the 32-player main draw, which begins play on Thursday.
