Sophomore wins opening match, but falls in second round of pre-qualifying
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sophomore Asiya Dair split her matches at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship on Saturday.
Dair, who earned an invitation to the tournament via her preseason ITA national ranking (tied for No. 96), won in her opening match in the tournament's pre-qualifying bracket before falling in her second match.
Dair posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Purdue's Krisztina Kapitany in her first-round match, but then dropped a tight three-set decision to USC's Rianna Valdes, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Valdes was the pre-qualifying bracket's No. 7 seed.
Junior Lexi Borr will open her run at the All-American later this week in the qualifying round.
