Women's rowing among several BC teams that honored former BC grad
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Boston College women's rowing program were just one of several athletic teams to partcipate in the Welles Crowther "Red Bandana" 5K run throughout the neighborhoods surrounding the Chestnut Hill campus.
Following an early morning row on the Charles River, many rowers participated in the Welles Remy Crowther Red Bandana 5K run, which raises money for The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust. Crowther, a '99 graduate of Boston College and a member of the men's lacrosse program, was killed on September 11, 2001 after saving the lives of others and becoming known at "the Man in the Red Bandanna." His story was featured in an ESPN documentary by the same name.
The annual race brings together Welles family, friends, BC alumni, staff and students, among others, to honor his life and the heroics that led to as many as 12 individuals being rescued from the South Tower during the September 11 attacks.
In Saturday's race, junior Erika Charnley led the way for the Eagles with a time of 24:34.
