York on Boston College's Goaltenders:
"I think Thatcher Demko coming back to our team after his postseason surgery is going to be crucial and I think he will even be a better goaltender for us than he already has been. The flexibility issues that he had to battle through prior to surgery in his first two years with us have been corrected and I think he will be as strong as any has seen thus far.
Incoming freshman Chris Birdsall will be a very good backup to Thatcher and he will learn a lot this year. We will definitely be calling upon him to play some key games for us this year, so we'll certainly have to develop his game as we go through. Alex Joyce, who was with our club last year as a practice player, will be activated and provide depth at that position."
• Junior Thatcher Demko returns for his third season and will be the undisputed No. 1 goaltender for the Eagles following a 19-13-3 (.596) season and posting the 19th-best save percentage (.925) in the country. Demko's save rate was fourth best in Hockey East and anchored a defense that also finished fourth in the league, earning him a Hockey East All-Star Honorable Mention award. The San Diego native logged the 11th-most minutes of any backstopper in college hockey last season, stockpiling 2107:06 minutes in 35 games started. Demko surrendered only 2.19 goals per game last season after seeing 1,027 total shots, 16th most in the NCAA.
• Incoming freshman Chris Birdsall arrives at The Heights with a great deal of experience in the junior ranks, having started 29 games, winning 18 of them for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL last year. The Glen Rock, N.J., native logged the league's fourth-best save percentage (.914) and fifth-best goals against average (2.46) as the team's primary netminder.
• Alex Joyce will be Boston College's third goaltender after joining the Eagles midway through the 2014-15 ledger as a practice goalie. The Darien, Conn., native is of junior standing and will look to offer stabilization as a student-athlete familiar with the program.
