Eagles Sweep Hockey East Weekly Awards

Keller, Newkirk, Carpenter all selected as the week’s best
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Fresh off a pair of wins over St. Lawrence– 7-4 on Sunday and 7-3 on Monday – the second-ranked Boston College women's hockey team swept Hockey East's weekly awards this week.
Freshman Makenna Newkirk was chosen as the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week after her four-point weekend. On Sunday, Newkirk scored her first collegiate goal, and also recorded an assist. On Monday, she tallied her second goal in as many games and also added an assist. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product has collected six points (two goals, four assists) through four games and is tied for second on the team in scoring. This is the first Hockey East honor of her career.
Sophomore Megan Keller was selected as the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. The blue liner picked up four points in the Eagles' two wins, including her first career two-goal game in Sunday's win. She added a third goal this weekend on Monday, pushing her season total to four goals in four games – matching her 37-game total from her freshman year. Keller's six points (4 goals, two assists) tie her for second on the team in scoring. This her first career Hockey East weekly defensive honor.
Senior Alex Carpenter repeated as Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week, having shared the award on Oct. 5. Carpenter tallied nine points in two games against the Saints, scoring four goals and contributing five assists. On Sunday she recorded five points (one goal, four assists), before posting four points – including her second hat trick in three games and the fifth of her career – on Monday. Her first goal in Monday's victory was also her 200th career point, becoming the second BC women's hockey player to reach the 200-point plateau. Carpenter leads the team in scoring with 13 points (8 goals, 5 assists). This Carpenter's 11th career Hockey East player of the week nod.
Boston College (4-0-0) returns to action this weekend when the team starts conference play with a pair of league games at Kelley Rink. On Saturday, Oct. 17, BC hosts Maine (1-3-0, 1-1-0 HEA) at 2 p.m., and then New Hampshire (0-3-0, 0-1-0 HEA) on Sunday, Oct. 18, also at 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on bceagles.tv.
