In 1983 Director of Athletics Sam Jankovich announced the resurrection of men's basketball at Miami, with the reinstatement vote by the UM Board of Trustees on Oct. 12, 1983. Head coach Bill Foster was hired March 21, 1984, adding assistants Clint Bryant, Seth Greenberg and Cesar Odio by July 1. Tim Harvey was the staff's first recruit, a 6-10, 240-pound center from Plainfield, N.J., who transferred from Georgia Tech. On Oct. 15, 1984 the first men's basketball practice in 12 years was held on the patio in the center of campus, viewed by more than 200 students. Miami defeated The Citadel, 85-77, on Nov. 22, 1985, in the first game of the new era of UM basketball.
• Cesar Odio is the all-time winningest coach at Barry University. He went 281-234 in 18 seasons.
