January 06, 2015 | Women's Hockey
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Junior forward Haley Skarupa earned Hockey East Player of the Month while freshman goaltender Katie Burt has been named both Goaltender and Rookie of the Month for their outstanding play in December.
Skarupa recorded five points on three goals and two assists in the Eagles’ two wins over Maine and Dartmouth. In BC’s 8-1 victory over the Black Bears on Dec. 5, Skarupa notched two goals to help the Eagles break the record for longest winning streak in program history (14 games). Skarupa scored the game-winner and added two helpers in BC’s 6-1 win against Dartmouth on Dec. 10. The Rockville, Md. native, currently on a 16-game point scoring streak, is second in the nation in points per game (2.38), goals per game (1.06), and assists per game (1.31).
This is Skarupa’s second career monthly honor and seventh league accolade. Skarupa also earned Player of the Month for her play in Oct. 2013.
Burt allowed just one goal in each win against Maine and Dartmouth. The Lynn, Mass. native recorded a career high 29 saves on the Eagles’ way to a 6-1 victory over the Big Green on Dec. 10. The freshman goaltender is second in the country with a 1.04 goals against average while her .946 save percentage ranks third in the nation.
These are Burt’s third and fourth league honors and first monthly accolades of the season.
