January 05, 2015 | Lacrosse
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team is ranked seventh in Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Top 20 Poll. The Eagles join six other Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in the top 10. Overall, seven of the conference's eight women's lacrosse programs are ranked in the preseason top 12.
Defending national champion Maryland is the top-ranked team in Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Top 20, followed by North Carolina at No. 2, and last year's NCAA runner-up, Syracuse, at No. 3.
Virginia (No. 6), BC, Duke (No. 8) and Notre Dame (No. 10) are all in the top 10, while conference newcomer Louisville is ranked 12th in the preseason poll.
BC is coming off a record-breaking 2014 season in which the team went 15-6 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The team set a program record with 15 wins, and advanced deeper in the NCAA Tournament than any other BC lacrosse team. Third-year head coach Acacia Walker has now brought the Eagles to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
Earlier this winter, Inside Lacrosse also had the Eagles ranked seventh in their preseason poll, while the outlet picked three Eagles as DI Face-Off Preseason All-Americans. Senior midfielder Mikaela Rix and senior attacker Covie Stanwick were first-team selections, while junior midfielder Sarah Mannelly was a third-team pick.
The Boston College lacrosse team will begin its 2015 campaign on Saturday, February 14 at Johns Hopkins - which is ranked #14 in the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20 - at 1 p.m.
