Burlington, Vt. – No. 1 Boston College (22-0-1, 15-0-0 WHEA) shut out Vermont (10-14-1, 1-11-0 WHEA), 2-0, on a second period goal from Meghan Grieves and an empty-netter from Kenzie Kent. The first-ranked Eagles remain undefeated through 23 games behind Katie Burt’s sixth shutout of the season.
Boston College mustered 17 shots in the first period on two big power play opportunities, but Catamount goaltender Madison Litchfield responded with 17 saves to keep the puck out of the net.
The Eagles outshot the Catamounts, 17-1, in the opening frame, but BC couldn’t capitalize on their offensive barrage and headed into the first intermission tied at zero.
It took 32:30 for the first score as junior Meghan Grieves found the back of the net on a scramble in front of Litchfield in the second period. The Eagles took the 1-0 lead with 7:30 left in the middle stanza.
Boston College continued to dictate the tempo in the third period, controlling time of possession in the Catamounts’ zone. Although the Eagles fired off 50 shots on Litchfield, the freshman goaltender recorded a career-high 49 saves to keep BC’s scoring at bay.
UVM pulled Litchfield with just over a minute left to give the Catamounts a man advantage. BC proved too strong to overcome, as freshman forward Kenzie Kent backhanded the Eagles’ second goal into the empty net.
Boston College extended its winning streak to 20 games and its unbeaten streak to 23 games with its 2-0 victory against Vermont.
Notes:
- Freshman goaltender Katie Burt is now tied for second on BC’s single-season shutout list with Corinne Boyles (2011-12), amassing six shutouts through 23 games
- Junior forward Alex Carpenter continued her point streak, tallying an assist on Kenzie Kent’s empty-netter with 30 seconds remaining in the game
