Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 1 Boston College returns to action with an away series against Hockey East opponent Vermont on Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18, both at 2 p.m. The Eagles look to keep the longest winning streak (18 games) and undefeated streak (21 games) in program history alive against the Catamounts.
Team Records
The first-ranked Boston College Eagles sit at 20-0-1 (13-0-0 WHEA) on the season heading into Saturday’s contest at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The 2014-15 BC squad has outscored its opponents 127-25 through 21 games. The Eagles haven’t skipped a beat coming out of the break as BC took down two league teams in #4 BU and Northeastern last week.
Vermont is 10-12-1 (1-9-0 WHEA) through its first 23 games of the season. The Catamounts are averaging 2.43 goals a game, and their scoring offense is ranked fourth in the Hockey East.
BC’s power play is the best in the league, averaging a 21.7 conversion percentage by going 20/97 on power play opportunities. The Catamounts’ penalty kill is last in the Hockey East, averaging a 78.7 efficiency percentage.
Team Leaders
Boston College junior forwards Alex Carpenter (21-30-51) and Haley Skarupa (19-24-43) lead the league—and the nation—in points per game, with 2.68 and 2.26 PPG, respectively. The linemates have combined for 40 of the Eagles’ 127 goals (31.5%).
The Eagles take the top five spots in the Hockey East in assists per game: Carpenter (1.58), Emily Pfalzer (1.39), Skarupa (1.26), Kenzie Kent (0.90), and Lexi Bender (0.86).
UVM senior forwards Amanda Pelkey (9-12-21) and Brittany Zuback (15-6-21) lead the Catamounts in point scoring. Pelkey and Zuback are tied for 11th in the WHEA in points.
Pelkey (4-5-9) and junior forward Dayna Colang (2-7-9) are weapons for Vermont in the power play, as they have the most power play points in the league.
Eagle goaltender Katie Burt is second in the nation with a 1.04 goals against average and fifth in save percentage (.946). The Catamounts’ sophomore goaltender Madison Litchfield is seventh in the league with a 2.95 goals against average and last in the league with a .887 save percentage.
The Last Meeting
The Eagles and Catamounts last met in November, when BC defeated Vermont, 4-2, at Kelley Rink on Nov. 9. Although UVM’s Amanda Pelkey struck first with a power play goal in the second period, BC responded with four straight goals to secure an Eagle win.
