Westphal Earns ACC Performer of the Week
January 13, 2015 | Women's Track & Field
Chestnut Hill, Mass.—Senior Liv Westphal has earned the ACC Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week for her performance at the Boston University Season Opener meet on December 6, 2014. Westphal shattered 5k records in the Eagles’ first meet of the season.
The Limoges, France native set a new Boston College record with her third-place 15:31.62 finish in the 5k. The previous record of 16:02.99 was set by Julie Spolidoro in 2003. In addition to setting a new BC record, Westphal also set a new ACC record. The previous indoor 5k record was held by Duke's Juliet Bottorff (15:49.50).
Westphal’s time is over a minute faster than her previous best (16:32.41 on Feb. 14, 2014 at Iowa State). It is the eighth fastest time in NCAA DI collegiate history and is currently third nationwide.
Westphal’s 15:31.62 5k finish was faster than all of last year’s NCAA DI Championship qualifying times. The 2014 championship qualifiers for the 5k had times ranging from 15:40.55 to 16:03.12.
The Eagles are back in action at the Harvard Multi-Meet on January 16th and 17th.
