Lacrosse Begins Fall Season Today

Cambridge, Mass. - Lacrosse begins their 2014 Fall Season today, September 28, at the Harvard Melting Pot Tournament. At 8:55 a.m. BC will take on new ACC Member, Louisville, for the first time ever.
The Eagles will then face Bryant University at 11:00 a.m. The last time the Eagles squared off against the Bulldogs it was the first round of the NCAA Tournament. BC defeated Bryant 17-9, with Covie Stanwick netting five goals and dishing out three assists. Sarah Mannelly added four goals and two assists for six points.
After Bryant, BC faces Brown at 1:00 p.m. The two schools did not meet last year, but in 2013 the Eagles grabbed a 15-12 victory over the Bears.
For their final game of the day the Eagles will play Massachusetts at 2:00 p.m. BC has never played the Minutewomen in the regular season. However, last season BC hosted UMass vs. Loyola in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The following weekend (Oct. 4) the Eagles will travel to Annapolis, Md. to participate in the Naval Academy Tournament. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. against Hofstra. Last year the Eagles faced Hofstra at this tournament as well.
BC will play the host team, Navy at 11:30 a.m. The day continues with a game versus Vanderbilt at 12:30. The Eagles last played the Commodores in 2013, recording a 13-8 win at the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.
Finally, BC will take on Delaware at 3:30 p.m. Navy and Delaware are both new regular season opponents for the Eagles.
The Eagles continue their fall season on October 5 at the Loyola Tournament, hosted by Loyola University. At 10:30 a.m. the Eagles will face Ohio State, an opponent they faced last season and edged 9-7 on a game-winning goal from Mannelly.
BC then squares off against Florida, a new opponent for the Eagles this season. The Gators advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 NCAA Tournament before ultimately falling to Northwestern in overtime.
For the final game of the day the Eagles and Greyhounds of Loyola University Maryland face off for the first time since the met in the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament where the Eagles toppled Loyola 8-3.
On October 11 BC will host a six team tournament at the Newton Lacrosse Field for their final tournament of the fall.
