Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Boston College (1) Northeastern (3)
The Eagles travelled to inner-city rival, Northeastern on Friday evening for their 27th match up in the programs' history. The matchup proved to be close one, with each game coming down to a battle in the twenties. The Huskies took set one, three and four to grab a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.
In set one, Coach Campbell put out a similar lineup to what the Eagles have been sporting for the past few weeks, with Katty Workman and Sol Calvete at outside hitter, Brittany Pavich and Anna Skold in the middle, Julia Topor on the right side, Kellie Barnum at setter and Courtney Castle in the opposite color jersey as the libero.
Set one was tight, the Eagles accumulated 15 kills, six of which came from Workman. Northeastern out blocked the Eagles in set one, the Huskies had 3.5 to BC's 0. The Eagles' mistake was in their five service errors, allowing Northeastern to slip by in set one, 23-25.
The Eagles came out strong in set two, determined to even the match at one win each. BC did just that in their 25-21 win in set two over the host team. The Eagles had zero service errors compared to their previous five in set one, assisting in the set two win. Workman added another six kills and hit .375 % through the second set. Through the second set Topor and Pavich each had six kills, and Calvete close behind with five.
Set three proved to be a battle until the very end. The largest lead, of just four points, came early in the set twice for the Huskies, but from that point forward the score remained close. AT the end of set three, Northeastern grabbed a 20-23 lead, forcing Campbell to call a timeout and attempt to regroup his squad. Unfortunately the Eagles could not pull themselves ahead of the Huskies in time, and the host team won set three 25-22. After three sets, Workman had accumulated 17 kills, Castle led the Eagles with 19 digs and Skold notched five blocks. Mallori Moffat saw some action in set three, dishing out 14 assists and digging four balls.
Campbell switched his setter in set four, trying a new scheme on the Huskies. Moffat started at setter, dishing out 14 assists in the narrow fourth set 24-26 loss. Though the Eagles had 63 kills to Northeastern's 54, their 29 errors compared to 19 on the Husky side proved to be detrimental to a chance at victory.
The Huskies out blocked the Eagles 13.5 to 8. In the four set loss, Workman led the team with a double-double killing 22 balls and digging 13. Topor accumulated 16 kills and 12 digs for her third double-double of the season. Moffat had 28 assists in the match, seeing her most game action of the season so far. Castle led the team with 23 digs.
