RECAPPING LAST FRIDAY AT THE WHIT
No. 17 Boston College trailed by a goal late on the road, but sophomore Austin Cangelosi tallied the equalizer with 4:45 remaining in regulation to escape with a point in a 2-2 draw on Friday night at New Hampshire. Cangelosi’s late marker stood as his first goal of the season and first multi-point performance of 2014 after assisting on rookie Zach Sanford’s opening strike at 13:06 of the first period. Junior defenseman Michael Matheson turned in his second multi-assist game of the season, doling out a helper on both Eagle goals. Second-year goaltender Thatcher Demko matched a career best in back-to-back contests. The San Diego native stopped 37 of UNH’s 39 attempts while his counterpart, rookie Adam Clark, stopped 26 shots on 28 Boston College attempts. Both clubs were granted a pair of power play opportunities on the night, but neither team could convert.
- Austin Cangelosi scored his first goal of the season and his first-career game-tying goal with a rip at 15:15 of the third period. The Estero, Fla., native also assisted on Zach Sanford’s second goal of the season for his first multi-point performance this year.
- Thatcher Demko stopped 37 shots in consecutive outings, including tonight’s performance at New Hampshire. The 6-foot-4 netminder stopped 37 shots at Providence in BC’s last outing on Nov. 29. Both performances are career bests.
NO-PANIC NOVEMBER
Boston College posted a 3-6-0 mark in the month of November, finishing with a .333 winning percentage. That mark stands as the Eagles’ roughest November since the 2007-08 season. Boston College did not win a game in November 2007, finishing with an 0-3-3 mark for a winning percentage of .250. That year, the Eagles turned it around by winning the Beanpot, Hockey East Tournament championship and 2008 National Championship in Denver.
DOUBLE GOOSE EGGS
Boston College has not been shut out twice in a season since the 2011-12 ledger. That year, the Eagles went on to hoist their fifth national championship in Tampa. BC has been shut out by Providence (1-0, Nov. 29) and UConn (1-0, Nov. 5) so far this year. The Eagles have not been shut out three times in a year since the 2003-04 season.
