2014-15 Schedule
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Women’s rowing competed in four regattas in the Fall 2014 season in preparation for their 2015 Spring season. BC’s best finishes came at the Foot of the Charles race at the beginning of November where three boats finished in the top three in every event (3rd in the Varsity 8, 1st in the Varsity 4 and 3rd in the Novice 8).
Rowing will begin their spring campaign on March 14 when they travel to Camden, N.J. to compete in the Jesuit Invitational Regatta, hosted by Saint Joseph’s on the Cooper River. At last year’s regatta the BC women took first in every event. Varsity 8 finished with a time of 6:43 over St. Joe’s 7:00.4 finish. BC also competed in and won four other events, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity Four, Fresh/3V8, 4 V8.
Next on the schedule is the Beanpot Regatta, where BC will compete against Boston neighbors Northeastern, Boston University and Harvard on the Charles River. BC competed against NU and BU at the Foot of the Charles Regatta on Nov. fifteenth. NU just edged BC in the Varsity 8. BC triumphed over NU in the Novice 8, however BU took second while BC placed third and fourth.
BC will race against MIT and Massachusetts on April 4 on the Charles River. Last season, the Eagles swept all events against local rival MIT and won the BC-MIT Cup in the Varsity 8 Event with a time of 7:31.1. It was the fourth year the cup has been contested and the second time BC has won the cup.
On April 11-12 rowing will return to New Jersey where the maroon and gold will compete in the Knecht Cup hosted by Villanova in West Windsor on Mercer Lake. Last year all six of the BC Crews advanced to the Grand Finals after the heats and semi-finals. Of those six, four crews returned to Boston with medals. The Eagles will compete against several Division I teams at the prestigious event.
The next weekend, April 19, the Eagles will stay in Massachusetts and square off against Holy Cross and Connecticut in Worcester on Lake Quinsigamond. In 2014, BC swept the competition, with the Varsity 8 winning the Irving-Christensen Cup. The Varsity 8 won with a time of 6:47.5 ahead of UConn who finished in 6:54.4 and Holy Cross 7:03.3.
Next, the Eagles will compete against University of Rhode Island and Boston University on April 25 in Kingston, R.I. on the Narrow River. Last season BC rowed against URI and UMass at this regatta. The Eagles placed second in the second Varsity 8 and second in Varsity 4.
In their last non-conference event of the spring season, BC will compete at the Eastern Sprints which take place on Cooper River in Camden, N.J. on May third. Last year, BC won medals in four events, earning 63 points, good for a third place team finish. The third place finish was the best team result BC has had at the race.
To round out the season, the Eagles will compete at the ACC Championship. BC finished 7th at the conference championship last season, led by the varsity four which places sixth in the Grand Final with a time of 7:47.7. At the ACC Championship, the Eagles will look to qualify for the NCAA Championship, which is hosted in Sacramento, Calif.,
“The team has worked hard this fall and posted some good results against some very good programs. Our challenge now is to build on the success and become as strong and physically fit as possible for what will be a challenging spring schedule of races. We race some of the fastest teams in the country both regionally and in the ACC Conference,” said head coach Steve Fiske.
