2014 Volleyball Season Review

BC volleyball concluded their season on Friday November 28 with a loss to Virginia Tech, but the Eagles’ 2014 season should not be marked with the losses. Chris Campbell’s 2014 squad posted volleyball’s best record overall and in conference play in six seasons at 11-18, 6-12 ACC. The Eagles tied for ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with Clemson, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech.
Team Highlights
-The Eagles won their ACC opener on the road against new conference opponent, Louisville... Katty Workman led the Eagles with 21 kills on 55 attempts with just five hitting errors. Julia Topor picked up 15 kills and 14 digs in the five set victory. Freshman outside hitter Calvete notched 11 kills, 23 digs and two aces, while the two middles, Pavich and Anna Skold had nine and six kills respectively. Barnum dished out 50 assists, while Louisville's setter only tallied 39. Senior libero Courtney Castle had a stellar night recording 31 digs in the five set victory.
-BC beat Wake Forest on Homecoming Weekend... The Eagles defeated the Demon Deacons for the fifth time in the two teams’ history. BC had a stunning night defensively, recording 20.0 total team blocks and 46 digs. Anna Skold had seven kills and seven and a half total blocks to BC’s efforts. New BC addition Kam McLain had five kills from the middle and nine block assists.
-The Eagles prevailed over Notre Dame in second matchup of season... The two teams fought through five sets, but this time the Eagles came out on top in round two. The Eagles were led by strong hitting from their middles, who both hit over .350 %. Junior Kam McLain had 11 kills, one error and led the team with a .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Anna Skold had 10 kills, two errors and hit .364 %.
-BC swept season series with Syracuse... The series sweep marked the first from BCVB since 2007 over NCSU. In the first matchup, Freshman middle hitter Brittany Pavich tallied six kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Sophomore Anna Skold tallied three kills and a block assist. Barnum recorded 39 assists in the three set match. In the Nov. 16 four-set defeat of Syracuse, outside hitter Katty Workman led the Eagles with a season-high 23 kills (.315%).
-The Eagles swept Clemson on Senior Day... The victory was BC’s first over Clemson since 2006. In the three set victory over Clemson, junior outside hitter Katty Workman recorded 12 kills and 10 digs, good for her 38th career double-double and the all-time program record.
Individual Highlights
-Workman broke the program record for double-doubles vs. Clemson (38) and finished the season with 41 in her career. Workman recorded fourteen this season, and still has another season to compete.
-Barnum had a career-high 55 assists vs. Temple.
-Castle recorded a career-high 31 digs at Louisville and a career-high 6 service aces at Harvard.
-Workman tallied a season-high 22 kills vs. Northeastern.
-Skold killed a career-high 11 balls vs. Temple and Harvard. Skold also had her most block assists, six, in two matches -- vs. #18 Minnesota and Northeastern.
-Topor had a career-high 18 kills against Pitt paired with a career-high hitting percentage of .417 %.
-Calvete tallied a career-high 13 kills vs. Syracuse and her career-high of 23 digs at Louisville.
In The Record Books
-Workman now tops the all-time double-double category with 41.
-Barnum finished her career second all-time in assists with 3,415.
-Workman sits at fifth on the all-time kill list. The rising senior outside hitter is just 192 kills away from breaking the all-time program record.
-Castle finished her career at third all-time in digs per set (3.35) and fifth on the all-time digs list (1,296).
-Castle is also on the all-time service aces list ranked t-6th (101) and the all-time service aces per set list ranked t-5th (0.26).
