Murphy, Westphal Named Eagles of the Week
November 04, 2014 | Women's Track & Field
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Graduate student quarterback Tyler Murphy (football) and senior Liv Westphal (cross country) have been named Eagles of the Week.
Murphy threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one more to lead Boston College past Virginia Tech on Saturday. With 122 yards on a career-high 18 carries, Murphy surpassed BC great Doug Flutie for career rushing yards by a BC quarterback with 965. He is tied for third on the school's single-season list with nine rushing touchdowns. Murphy is also fifth on the ACC's single-season list for rushing yards by a QB. He currently leads the nation in quarterback rushing (107.2).
200-meters into last week's 6,000-meter race at the ACC Championships, Westphal was knocked to the ground, suffering a fracture in her hand. Even with the initial setback, Westphal finished with a time of 19:43.8, winning the ACC title and breaking the Panorama Farms course record in the process. With her performance, she earned herself All-ACC honors and became the first cross country athlete from BC to earn NCAA Cross Country National Athlete of the Week honors.
Football (6-3, 3-2 ACC) hosts No. 25 Louisville Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. Westphal's next race will be in the NCAA Northeast Regional on November 14.
