Men's Tennis Finishes FGCU Fall Invitational

On October 31 through November 2, men's tennis competed in their final tournament of the fall at the Florida Gulf Coast University Fall Invitational. The tournament consisted of eleven schools from around the country.
On Friday, five singles brackets were played. In the A Draw, Hank Workman fell to F. Groetsch of BU, 6-3, 6-1 at 9:00 a.m. He played again at 2:00 p.m. against S. Rey of Tulane, and fell in a hard fought battle 6-4, 6-7, 10-7.
Conor Mullins and Kent Mukai competed in the B Draw. Mullins' first match at 9:00 a.m. resulted in a loss to I. Espindola of UCF, 6-2, 6-4. And he fell again at 2:00 p.m. to R. Dubaque of Florida Atlantic 4-0, ret. Mukai faced A. Van Cott of Tulane at 9:00 a.m. and lost 6-2, 6-0, then played L. Gamble of Princeton, who beat Mukai 6-1, 6-1.
The C Draw included Kyle Childree and Aidan McNulty. Childree first dueled D. Armengol of University of Texas Arlington at 10:30 a.m. and lost 6-3, 7-6(2). Childree played S. Bacha of Florida Atlantic on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and won 1-6, 6-2, 10-4. McNulty defeated L. Vaz of FGCU on Friday morning, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. McNulty faced j. Gonzalez-Tarrio of Saint Leo on Friday in round 2 and fell 6-4, 7-6(4).
Matt Wagner and Alexandre Thirouin represented BC in the D Draw. Wagner fell to A. Bates of FGCU 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 on Friday morning, before beating M. Sinn of Nicholls, 7-5, 6-0. Thirouin defeated M. Muniesa from UTA at noon on Friday, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Thirouin then faced A. Tahirovic of BU and lost 7-6 (5), 6-2.
In the E Draw, Jeffrey Melvin faced K. Cronin of Nicholls and fell 6-2, 7-6(4). Melvin also competed in the E Consolation Draw against A. Reid of FGCU and lost 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
On Saturday, singles players who won moved on, and doubles matches commenced. In the Doubles A Draw Workman/Wagner faced Schmitz/Rey of Tulane and lost 8-2. In the B Draw Childree/Mukai dueled against the tandem from BU of Sielmann/Lombardi and lost 8-5. Thirouin/Mullins made up the BC team in the D Draw and fell to Pronnet/Echenique, 8-4. In the E Draw McNulty/Melvin grabbed the Eagles' only double win of the weekend, with an 8-7 (5) victory over Gonzalez/El Nehmani of Saint Leo.
BC will be back in action on January 18, 2015 against William and Mary at Harvard.
