Volleyball Hosts Virginia and VT On Final Weekend

The Eagles dropped two matches last weekend in Florida and are looking to bounce back and record two more ACC wins before the season ends. Virginia and Virginia Tech will travel to the Heights for a Thanksgiving-sandwich pair of games, as the Cavaliers and Hokies will face the Eagles on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
2014 Season
The 2014 season has been a solid turnaround for the Eagles as they have tallied six conference wins this season, as opposed to their sub-five conference win trend the past five seasons. Junior outside hitter Katty Workman leads BC in kills with 388 this season. She also places in the top three in dig total with 276. Sophomore opposite Julia Topor has been a force on the right, putting away 283 kills and stopping 61 total balls at the net. Also at the pin is freshman star Sol Calvete who shines at the net and in the back row. Calvete has 216 kills this season and 287 digs.
In the middle, Anna Skold has held things down with 77 total blocks and a .205 hitting percentage, while Kam McLain has recorded 41 total blocks and a .239 hitting percentage. Senior setter Kellie Barnum continues to lead the Eagles’ offense distributing 916 assists in 27 matches and has been a force from the service line as she has aced opponents 21 times this season. Libero Courtney Castle has accumulated 399 digs and leads the Maroon and Gold with 33 service aces.
Match #28: Boston College (6-10 ACC, 11-16) vs. Virginia (9-7 ACC, 16-13)

Scouting Virginia
The Cavaliers are in sixth place in the ACC with a 9-7 conference record. Head coach Dennis Hohenshelt is in his third season with the Cavs and has led them to a 16-13 record overall. Virginia is led by senior outside hitter Tori Janowski who ranks in the top-three in multiple statistical categories including kills (352, 1st), aces (36, 1st), digs (261, 3rd), and blocks (62, 3rd).
The Cav’s offense is a one-man show as junior Lauren Fuller has 1,253 assists this season, and the next ranked player is the libero with just 50. Fuller ranks third in the ACC in assists per set (10.71). Sophomore libero Lexi Riccolo has dug 349 balls this season, leading the Cavs.
The series between Boston College and the Cavaliers began in 2005 with Virginia holding a 15-2 mark on the Eagles. BC and Virginia last matched up on Oct. 12, 2013 in an ACC match with the Cavs earning a 3-2 victory over the Eagles.
In the 2013 matchup, Workman recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 26 kills and 21 digs.

Scouting Virginia Tech
The Hokies are led offensively by Lindsey Owens and Kathryn Caine who have recorded 364 and 267 kills respectively this season. Senior LaTasha Sampson-Akpan is ranked seventh in the conference in hitting percentage with an impressive .365 % on the season.
Sophomore Amanda McKinzie is a threat from the service line and ranked sixth in the conference with an average of 0.31 service aces per set. In the back row, senior Megan Beckwith is ranked eighth in the ACC averaging 3.71 digs per set.
The series between Boston College and the Hokies began in 2001 with Virginia Tech holding a 6-13 mark on the Eagles. BC and Virginia Tech last matched up on Oct. 11, 2013 in an ACC match with the Hokies earning a 3-0 victory over the Eagles. Courtney Castle led the Eagles with eight kills and 12 digs in the match.
