Volleyball Drops Three-Setter To Miami

Coral Gables, Fla. - BC (11-16, 6-10 ACC) concluded their final road trip of the season with a three-set loss to Miami on Sunday afternoon.
Hitters Katty Workman, Kam McLain and Sol Calvete all recorded seven kills in the match at Coral Gables, Fla. Senior setter Kellie Barnum recorded 18 assists in the match and Mallori Moffat had nine assists. Courtney Castle had 17 digs and three assists. Julia Topor has 3.0 total blocks on the afternoon.
The Eagles came out strong versus the Hurricanes and led until Miami grabbed their first lead at 10. BC kept the score close, but the Canes grabbed four in a row taking their largest lead of the set at 17-13.
BC came storming back and tied the set at 18 thanks to a Workman service ace, a Calvete kill and two Miami errors. The Eagles and Hurricanes battled it out down the stretch of set one into extra points.
The Hurricanes ultimately took set one, 31-29. McLain had three kills and no errors in set one, Moffat had eight assists while Barnum had six.
Set two was controlled more by the home team, as Miami won 25-17. Both teams had 11 kills, but Miami’s four blocks to BC’s zero put the Hurricanes on top. After two sets, Calvete had six kills and was hitting .417 percent.
The ‘Canes sped out to a 7-2 lead in set three, forcing BC to call an early timeout. Miami continued their push, holding a solid lead through the entire third set. The Eagles could not overcome their early deficit and the Hurricanes capitalized, taking set three, 25-15.
BC will play their final two matches of the season next Wednesday and Friday at The Heights. The Eagles take on Virginia at 1:00 pm on Wednesday and Virginia Tech at 12:00 on Friday for a post-Thanksgiving showdown.
