Leaving Their Mark On The Court: Alumni Tradition

Since 2013 graduating seniors for the volleyball team have engaged in the tradition of signing a SportCourt tile in front of the BC home bench. Upon the return of alumni who graduated prior to 2013, multiple tile-signing ceremonies have taken place. This season, four new tiles were laid and eight total alumni returned for matches in Power Gym.
Melissa McTighe ‘13: McTighe who hails from Los Altos, California had an impressive career at Boston College leading the team in solo blocks for three consecutive years in 2011, 2012, and 2013 while also leading the team in hitting percentage in 2012 and 2013. McTighe was named team captain for her senior year in 2013.
Alex Trobbe ‘13: Trobbe, a native of Los Gatos, California had several single match highs throughout her career including five service aces against Georgia Tech in 2012, and 15 digs against Maryland in 2010.
Rose Hanley ‘11: Hanley is originally from San Diego, California and was an outside hitter for the Eagles after she transferred to Boston College in the spring of 2009. Hanley received the Athletics Director’s Award for Academic Achievement in her Junior year and posted season-highs of eight kills, three blocks, and 2 digs in one match her senior year.
Allison Anderson ‘00: Anderson was a three-year captain of the BC volleyball team and a 2014 Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee. She accrued All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honors twice, AVCA All-East First Team honors, AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, and captured The Nathaniel J. Hasenfus `22 Eagle of the Year Award following her senior season. The Moraga, California native remains the school's career leader in three statistical categories - aces (133), digs (2,176), and digs per set (4.92). Upon graduation, Anderson received the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award, an ACC postgraduate scholarship that speaks to her excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
Terry Shanahan '90: Shanahan was a four-year starter who set school records in "Kills" (1175), "Digs" (1263), and "Aces" (254), she was team Captain and Most Valuable Player in both her junior and senior seasons. She was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. Shanahan was named to the All-Tournament Team in 18 of 21 competitions during her varsity career. She was the winner of the Nathaniel J. Hasenfus "Eagle of the Year" Award as the outstanding female student-athlete in her graduating class.
-Shanahan was also named a "Scholar of the College" by the Academic Deans, she was chosen to receive the "Delta Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award" as the outstanding female student-athlete in the nation as a senior. After graduation, she attended Harvard Medical School.
Ellen McCarthy ‘89: McCarthy was a former junior Olympian and was a key player during her time at BC. Ellen currently resides in Boston.
Eileen Hoban ‘89: Hoban was a four year starter for the Eagles and at a height of 5’ 10” had an impressive vertical of jump of 32 inches. Hoban currently resides in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Midge Connolly ‘88: Connolly was two-sport varsity athlete playing both volleyball and lacrosse during her time at BC. She was an instrumental player for the Eagles and was named team captain during her junior and senior years.
