Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Six members of the Boston College field hockey team have been named to the All-Northeast Regional Team. Senior Emma Plasters and junior Romee Stiekema earned First Team honors while juniors Jordyn Hamilton and Leah Settipane and sophomores Emily and Eryn McCoy earned Second Team honors.
Boston College had the most representatives in the Northeast Region and ties a program-high with its six Eagles on All-Northeast Regional Teams. The only other time BC had six players named All-Northeast Region was in 2003.
“I am thrilled for each of the players to be recognized in a very competitive region. The individual accolade is certainly an accomplishment for each of those players to be very proud of,” said head coach Ainslee Lamb.
Plasteras, a midfielder from North Vancouver, B.C., finished the 2014 season with 21 points on six goals and nine assists. This is her third year in a row being named First Team All-Northeast Region along with being named First Team All-ACC for the third consecutive year. The senior captain’s nine assists tied for 7th in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Stiekema, a midfielder from Amsterdam, garnered five points on one goal and three assists. Stiekema’s goal was her first career goal for the Eagles and the game-winner in an overtime contest vs. No. 4 Syracuse on Sep. 20. The junior midfielder earned Second-Team All-Northeast Region accolades last season.
Hamilton, a back from East Hampstead, N.H., earns her first All-Region honor with her Second Team nomination. The junior back has started all 20 games this season and was part of a defensive unit that didn’t allow a goal off of an opponent penalty corner in its last 11 games.
Emily McCoy, a midfielder from Lancaster, Pa., also earns her first All-Region accolade with her Second Team honor. McCoy finished the 2014 season second on the team with 23 points on ten goals and three assists. The sophomore earned ACC Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 28 after tallying three points (one goal, one assist) in a crucial victory over No. 8 Virginia.
Eryn McCoy, a forward from Lancaster, Pa., garners her first All-Region accolade with her Second Team nomination. In the 2014 season, McCoy led the Eagles with 25 points on ten goals, including the game-tying score with eight minutes remaining in the Eagles’ first-round NCAA Tournament bout with Penn State, and five assists. The sophomore forward earned league accolades on Oct. 21 after tallying seven points against No. 7 Louisville and California. McCoy scored both of the Eagles’ goals in the 2-1 victory over U of L, including the OT game-winner.
Settipane, a goalkeeper from East Greenwich, R.I., earns her first All-Region honor with her Second Team nomination. The junior goalkeeper led the ACC in saves with 117 and moved up to fourth on BC’s all-time career saves list (334). She recorded four shutouts and a .765 save percentage. Settipane also earned All-ACC Second Team honors this season for the first time in her career.
“They all impacted the success of our team this fall and have set the standards high for the future success of this program.
“It is always such a compliment when individual players are recognized for their distinguished performances on the field. I am thrilled for them and for the overall compliment to the entire program,” said Lamb.
