Women's XC Headed to NCAA Championships
November 15, 2014 | Women's Track & Field
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College women’s cross country has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships in Terra Haute, Ind. on Nov. 22, as announced by the organization on Saturday afternoon.
With its fifth place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday, the team will be one of 31 total teams heading to the NCAA Championships. Only 31 of over 300 NCAA Division I schools qualified for this year’s NCAA Championships. The Eagles have earned team bids to the NCAA Championships in 18 out of the last 30 years. Their last team bid was in 2012.
Six of the seven runners who raced at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 14—Danielle Winslow, Laura Hottenrott, Madeleine Davidson, Ashbrook Gwinn, Brittany Winslow, and Megan Young—have never been to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Senior Liv Westphal is the only Eagle on the team with experience at the championship meet.
Last year, Westphal placed 17th in a field of 254 runners and earned All-American honors for her performance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Two members of the team earning this trip, Megan Young and Ashbrook Gwinn, had never run a 6K in cross country until this fall. Young and Gwinn opened up with their first ever 6K at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, the most competitive cross country meet of the year outside of the NCAAs.
Indiana State will host the championships Nov. 22 at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, located in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women’s race will begin at noon ET, followed by the men’s race at approximately 1 p.m. A live webcast will be available on NCAA.com.
