Boston College Athletics
Q&A With Dimitri Batten
November 13, 2014 | Men's Basketball
What stood out the most to you when deciding on coming to Boston College?
"A lot of it was the coaching staff. I did a lot of research on Coach Christian. He's a good coach that has taken teams to the NCAA Tournament. His resume alone; along with the other coaches as well. It also gave me a chance to play in the ACC."
You and Aaron Brown have had successful careers already. How does that translate into what you are trying to do here?
"It translates a lot. Both of us had the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament, win conference championships and compete against each other. We know what it takes to win and be on a winning team: dedication and hard work."
Is it tough to come in and become an experienced leader with a new team?
"It's a different challenge for me coming in here. Guys didn't know me so I had to build a bond with each teammate. It was a big challenge."
What are some things this coaching staff has brought to the table compared to other ones you've played for?
"A lot of intensity; everyone is upbeat. The coaching staff helps me out when I need help; player development and being competitive. They're not negative; always positive."
What are some positive steps you've seen this team take since your arrival?
"I've seen the team come together a lot. We are focused a lot on defense. Everyone is buying into what coach is saying; changing the culture and staying positive."
Why do you wear #1?
"I like #4 but Eddie (Odio) had #4. I just chose #1; also because of my daughter - my first born."
What excites you the most about getting the season started?
"Just playing with these guys here. Knowing everybody is behind my back; that I have them behind me. I have their back and they have my back."
