Volleyball Faces No. 23 Duke and Miami

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Volleyball is off to their best ACC start in history after going 2-1 in their first three matches. The Eagles look to continue their streak against No. 23 Duke University and the University of Miami.
The Eagles (7-7, 2-1 ACC) will matchup against Duke (12-3, 4-0 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. for the Dig Pink game in support of breast cancer research. BC and Miami (9-6, 2-2 ACC) will face off on Sunday, Oct. 12 at noon.
BC HOSTS DUKE AND MIAMI

The Eagles and the Blue Devils will be facing off for the first and only time in the regular season on Friday. The Hurricanes will travel to Chestnut Hill for their only match with BC in the regular season on Sunday.

Duke won last year’s match up 3-1 and leads the all-time series 14-1. Miami took last year’s match from the Eagles in a five-setter and holds a 19-2 all-time record over the Eagles.

BC has doubled its total ACC wins from last year after the victory over Syracuse last Sunday.

Defending ACC Champion Duke has started the 2014 season 4-0, while the Miami Hurricanes sit at 2-2 thus far in the season.

BC has dug 874 balls this season, whereas opponents have only dug 771.

The Eagles record 1.4 more digs per set than its opponents. BC: 13.0 digs/set Opp: 11.6 digs/set.

The Eagles have only committed 21 ball handling errors in 57 sets played.
LAST TIME vs. DUKE

No. 12 Duke took the first two sets, then the Eagles made an effort to get back into the match. It was too late for BC though, as the Blue Devils capitalized on the fourth game and won the match, 3-1.

Katty Workman recorded her ninth double-double of the season. Workman had 13 kills and 16 digs.

BC tallied 46 kills, while Duke had 59. The Eagles committed 29 hitting errors compared to their opponent’s 16.

The Orange blocked well versus the Eagles recording 14.0 total team blocks.

Duke’s Deichmeister, currently a senior, recorded 7 block assists. Her teammate, Obeime had a team high 14 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. Obeime is currently ranked 10th in the conference in kills per set with 3.54.
LAST TIME vs. MIAMI

The Eagles and Hurricanes met in the first ACC match last season, with Miami pulling out a 5-set win after the Eagles won games one and two.

Workman recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 22 kills and 13 digs and Courtney Castle notched her second double-double of the season, 14 kills, 13 assists.

Miami’s Savanah Leaf, now a senior, charted a team-high 17 kills and 12 digs. Her teammate, Misty Ma’a, currently a junior, recorded 16 kills and 10 digs.

Leaf leads the ACC and ranks 17th in the nation in kills (4.47/set).

The Eagles currently have players on four of the top 10 statistical rankings for the ACC.

Julia Topor is ranked second in the ACC in kills with 4.36 per set. Workman is ranked ninth with 3.64 kills/set.

Kellie Barnum is ranked fourth in the conference in assists with 10.09 per set and tied for eighth in service aces with .36 aces per set. Courtney Castle also is tied for 8th with .36 service aces per set.

Castle is ranked fourth in the conference in digs per set with 5.45 and Sol Calvete sits at eighth in the ACC with 3.82 digs/set.
