Men's Soccer Falls In 2OT At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse's Skylar Thomas scored in double overtime to lead the No. 3 Orange past the Boston College men's soccer team, 2-1, on Friday night in the regular season finale at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Senior Diego Medina-Mendez scored his first goal of the season in the 11th minute to give Boston College a 1-0 lead. Junior Alex Kapp was credited with six saves in goal. Syracuse held an 18-6 advantage in shots and had a 14-3 edge in corners.
Medina-Mendez put the Eagles on the board early when he put home a cross that came in from the left side in the 11th minute.
Syracuse's Oyvind Alseth was taken down in the box 18 minutes later when the Orange was on the attack. A penalty kick was rewarded and Nick Perea connected to notch the equalizer.
Syracuse had a 7-2 advantage in shots in the second half but Kapp made four saves to force overtime. Three of those saves came in the last 31 minutes.
The Orange took six shots in the two overtime periods compared to BC's one. Alex Halis nearly scored the golden goal in the 93rd minute but his shot hit the post and stayed out. Kapp made a save on a Juuso Pasanen header five minutes later to force the second overtime period.
Syracuse scored the game-winner three minutes into the second overtime. Halis took a but it was blocked by a BC defender. The ball fell right to Thomas' foot who hit the back of the net to end the match.
