The scrappy squad went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Wake Forest at home on Friday night, putting on a block party, resulting in 20.0 total team blocks. That total is the third most blocks in a single match a BC team has ever posted, just behind 21.0 versus Wake Forest in 2006 and 24.0 against NC State in 2007. As a team, BC has out-aced their opponents 108-70 and have 1,053 digs while opponents have 988. The Eagles average 11.9 assists per set and 12.7 kills per set on the season.
BC settled back into a more familiar lineup this weekend after re-adding Sol Calvete to the mix. Calvete played mostly back row on Friday evening, with Mendes stepping in to the outside hitter position and putting away four kills. Mendes has been a versatile player for Campbell when he needs someone to step up and fill a spot. Calvete played all around on Sunday at Notre Dame, where she recorded 11 kills, six digs and a solo block.
Courtney Castle moved back to the libero spot and continued her strong service game, tallying three aces in nine sets. Junior outside hitter Katty Workman remained a constant for the Eagles in another big ACC weekend, putting up 16 kills and just five errors (.306%) along with two solo blocks and a block assist against WFU. Against Notre Dame, Workman had 15 kills and 12 digs, bringing her double-double total this season to nine and moving her to T1 all-time.
Setter Kellie Barnum was also outstanding this weekend, averaging 9.78 assists per set last weekend. In Sunday’s narrow five-set loss to Notre Dame, Barnum spread out her 43 assists well, resulting in double digit totals from four of her hitters.
Middle hitters Kam McLain and Anna Skold were a major part of the Eagles’ success on Friday night, hitting .444 and .263 respectively. McLain put up nine block assists, tied for 6th all-time in a single match. Skold had seven block assists and one solo block against WFU. The two middles both hit .250 against Notre Dame. McLain had 10 kills and Skold had eight.
