
Women's Tennis Continues At ITA Regionals

New Haven, Conn. - Women’s tennis continues competition at the USTA/ITA Regional Championship today in New Haven, Conn.
Senior Jessica Wacnik will continue in the Singles quarter finals today after a first round bye and a round two victory over Yale’s Yi, 6-1, 7-5. Wacnik squared off against D'Ascenzo of Cornell Sunday morning and was victorious with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Next, Wacnik defeated Salazar from Syracuse, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Sophomore Lexi Borr also had a first round bye before beating Seton Hall’s Liljekvist, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1. Sunday morning Borr dualed and beat Stosljevic of UConn, 6-3, 6-4. Then continued to beat Rodgers of Syracuse, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarter finals which will take place Monday morning.
The Eagles’ lone freshman, Assiya Dair also had a first round bye. In the second round Dair beat Qostal of Pennsylvania, 6-3, 6-1. Dair continued her singles quest Sunday morning at 11:30 when she faced Yale’s Hamilton and defeated her in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Dair's journey ended with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Jiang of Columbia in the fourth round.
Katya Vasilyev had a first round bye, then defeated Solovyev of Columbia, 6-4, 6-2. Vasilyev played Brown’s Camhi at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning, results to follow.
BC’s Emily Safron was victorious over Leung of Columbia, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, but was knocked out in the second round by Brown’s Benotto, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
The Eagles also competed in the Doubles Draw. Wacnik/Borr, a doubles team that was ranked 21st in the country in the preseason, earned an 8-5 win over the Auyeung/Campisi pair of Lehigh. The BC doubles team continued their dominance in round two and three, defeating Ion/Qostal of Pennsylvania, 8-1 and Albany’s Glumac/Sala, 8-5, respectively. Wacnik and Borr won the fourth round against Salazar/Safdar from Syracuse, 8-2 and will continue into the semi-finals this afternoon.
The Vasilyev/Dair tandem defeated Lee/Kallenberg of Harvard 8-4 in the first round before falling to Camhi/Lord of Brown, 8-3.
