Durham, N.H. - No. 3/4 Boston College women's ice hockey defeated New Hampshire, 4-0, in its first Hockey East matchup of the season. The Eagles (3-0-1, 1-0-0 WHEA) are now 8-3 in the last 11 meetings with the Wildcats.
The Eagles applied the offensive pressure early, scoring two goals in the first period. Junior defenseman Lexi Bender netted her fourth goal of the season, tied for most on the team, to start the scoring for the Eagles.
Freshman forward Kenzie Kent made it 2-0, BC, with her first career goal for Boston College. Kent also made her first career start for the Eagles Sunday afternoon. Junior forward Haley Skarupa, with her assist on Kent's goal, reached her 100th career point as a BC Eagle.
No goals were scored in the second period, and Boston College maintained its 2-0 lead heading into the third frame.
Junior forward Alex Carpenter scored her fourth goal of the season on a BC power play to increase the Eagles' lead to 3-0 nine minutes into the final period.
Haley McLean netted the fourth and final goal of the day for Boston College just a minute after Carpenter's goal, bringing a score of 4-0 into the Eagles' win column. Freshman defenseman Megan Keller got her first collegiate point on the assist.
Freshman goaltender Katie Burt recorded her first collegiate shutout against the Wildcats to give Boston College its first shutout of the season. Burt tallied saves on all of the Wildcats' 21 shots to keep the puck out of the net. Overall, Boston College outshot New Hampshire, 42-21.
The Eagles return to Conte Forum Friday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. as they welcome Cornell to Kelley Rink for a two-game series.
