No. 7 WIH Faces Off Against Providence

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 7 women's hockey team (18-4-3, 13-1-1 WHEA) hosts Providence (11-16-0, 6-8-0) on Saturday, Jan. 1 at 2 p.m. The contest marks the third and final regular season matchup between the teams. Boston College won the first two games of the series in November. The game will be part of Hockey East's "Skating Strides" program, which is currently entering its 8th season and has raised nearly $230,000 for various breast cancer charities. Boston College will also be holding their "Skate with the Eagles" program following the game, which allows the public to come and skate on the ice with BC players.
Boston College is coming off weekend series sweep of UNH that extended the Eagles' unbeaten streak to nine (7-0-2) and winning streak to five. BC started the weekend with a 5-3 home victory over the Wildcats. Taylor Wasylk (two goals, one assists) and Dana Trivigno (one goal, three assists) powered the Eagles to victory. BC was then able to avoid overtime and leave Durham, N.H. with two points the following day when Emily Field netted the game winner with less than two minutes to go in the third period, lifting the Eagles to a 3-2 victory.
The Friars split their weekend series with Connecticut, dropping the first contest 3-1 and winning the second 1-0. Lexi Romanchuck scored the lone goal for Providence and Sarah Bryant made eight stops in net for the shutout as the Friars won their sixth conference game of the year. Corinne Buie leads PC with 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) and Cassidy Carels has the most goals on the team with 13.
The Eagles are 9-1-0 in their last ten games against Providence, and has won five straight. BC's last loss to PC came on Feb. 4, 2012 when the Eagles fell 6-2. In the teams' last matchup earlier this season, Melissa Bizzari netted the game-winning goal in overtime to boost the Eagles to a 2-1 home victory. The night before, BC scored five goals in the second period and was able to hold off Providence's late push, securing an 8-6 victory.
Boston College will have a quick turnaround after the game against Providence, as it hosts the first round of the Beanpot on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The Eagles face off against Boston University at 8 p.m., while Northeastern and Harvard play in the first game at 5 p.m.
