BC-VIRGINIA TECH MEET IN BLACKSBURG
• Boston College makes the trip down to Blacksburg on Saturday to take on Virginia Tech at noon at Cassell Coliseum.
• The Eagles have lost their last four outings and seven of their last eight.
• Virginia Tech has lost three of its last four, including a 72-52 loss to #2/2 Syracuse at home on Tuesday night.
• The Hokies have won seven of their 10 games at home this season.
• Boston College has won five of the last six against Virginia Tech, including an 86-75 win last year in Blacksburg.
• The Eagles are 5-6 all-time in Cassell Coliseum.
BC COMEBACK FALLS SHORT TO CLEMSON
• Clemson led by 14 points at halftime, but Boston College cut the deficit to two in the second half and had a chance to send the game to overtime.
• Sophomore Olivier Hanlan led all scorers with 27 points, including 22 in the second half. He also had five rebounds.
• Junior Ryan Anderson scored 13 points while sophomore Joe Rahon recorded seven rebounds, five points, four assists and three steals.
• Clemson started the game on a 10-2 run that Boston College never recovered from. There were no ties or lead changes.
• The Eagles trailed, 56-47, with 3:23 left in the game, but trimmed it down to 59-56 with 46 seconds on the clock.
• Clemson's K.J. McDaniels hit 1 of 2 free throws with six seconds left to make it 62-59, then Hanlan was fouled to avoid a 3-pointer with 1.7 left. He hit his first and missed the second on purpose, grabbed his own rebound and was fouled again.
• He had two shots with BC losing, 62-60, with 1.3 left. Hanlan missed the first and then had to miss the second, but Clemson secured the rebound and the game.
LAST YEAR AT VIRGINIA TECH
• Ryan Anderson led three Boston College scorers in double figures with 26 points as the Eagles defeated Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum, 86-75, on January 9.
• Anderson went 11-for-17 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Olivier Hanlan was all over the court. He had 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. Lonnie Jackson had a season-high 22 points - 19 in the second half - to go along with seven rebounds. He was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and 7-for-12 from the foul line. Joe Rahon had nine points and six assists.
• The Boston College defense forced 17 turnovers while the offense gave it away just five times. The Eagles had a 29-0 advantage in points off turnovers. BC dished out a total of 17 assists (second most in a game last year) and its five turnovers were a season low.
• The first half was fairly tight the entire way as both teams led by as much as six points. Virginia Tech held its six-point lead with 5:35 left in the half when Erick Green hit a jumper to make it a 23-17 game. Boston College ended the half on a 15-3 run to take a 32-26 lead into the locker rooms. The Hokies' Will Johnston hit a 3-pointer at the 3:57 mark but those were the only points they could muster in the last 5:34. Hanlan had six points in the run.
• The Eagles continued to build their lead in the second half, starting on a 10-4 run that increased the advantage to 42-30. BC maintained the double-digit cushion until the 12:45 mark when Virginia Tech began a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 53-49 near the midpoint of the half.
• BC led, 67-62, at the 4:29 mark before it made its final push. A quick 6-1 run put the lead back to 10, 73-63, and the Eagles hit their foul shots down the stretch to keep Virginia Tech at bay.
BC SCHEDULE RANKED 4TH TOUGHEST
• Boston College established one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country.
• BC's opponents in November are a combined 65-42 so far this year and #19/19 Massachusetts is nationally ranked. UConn was ranked up until this week. Toledo and UConn have 12 wins this season while UMass has 13. In addition, Providence already has 11 wins.
• The Eagles' opposition in the month of December is a combined 61-28 with VCU reaching 13 wins already.
• The record of all 15 of BC's opponents so far is a combined 151-76. All of the Eagles opponents are a combined 281-124 - a .694 winning percentage.
• According to ESPN's Daily RPI, Boston College currently has the fourth toughest schedule in the nation.
