BC Volleyball Defeats USC-Upstate in Western Carolina Invitational

Boston College volleyball defeated USC-Upstate (0-1) in three sets, 3-0, on the opening day of the Western Carolina Invitational.
The Eagles took all three sets: 25-9, 25-11, and 25-19. The victory gave the Eagles a 1-0 start to the 2013 season.
Freshman Katty Workman led the Eagles in kills with a match high 11 and senior Amanda Yerke and freshman Barbara Gonzalez followed closely with six kills each.
Junior captain Kellie Barnum recorded 17 assists to lead the Eagles while Katty Workman contributed with 13 digs.
Standouts for the Spartans included, Javon Gates and Emily Koelling who both notched six kills and Lexi Gober who compiled a match high of 19 assists.
The Eagles will face tournament host Western Carolina tonight at 7 p.m. The WCU Catamounts defeated Wright State in the first match of the invitational, 3-0, to also start their season with a 1-0 record.
