CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Boston College sophomores Mikaela Rix and Covie Stanwick have each earned a spot on the 2013 All-ACC Women's Lacrosse Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Both players also captured All-ACC honors last season as freshmen. They represent two of the eight student-athletes to gain repeat recognition.
Rix, an April addition to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, leads BC with 64 draw controls and ranks third in the ACC with 3.76 draw controls per game. Her 64 draw controls rank fourth for draw controls in a season in program history. Last season the midfielder won 39 draws.
The Garden City, N.Y., native ranks second on the team with 43 goals and 48 points ranking seventh in the league with 2.53 goals per game. She has matched her freshman year goal total (43) and surpassed her rookie point total of 46. Rix, who currently has 94 career points, has scored four or more goals in a game four times this year and scored three or more goals in a game nine times.
Stanwick, also a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, paces the Eagles with 52 goals, 22 assists, and 74 points. She ranks second in the ACC in both points per game (4.35) and goals per game (3.06) and ranks third in the conference in assists per game (1.29). The attacker is one of only three players in the league to rank in the top five of all three categories. Her 52 goals this season have matched BC's single-season goals record set by Lauren Costello in 2010.
Earlier this season, the Baltimore, Md., product registered her 100th career point in her 28th game played becoming the 13th member of BC's 100-point club and becoming the second fastest Eagle to reach the milestone. This spring she has scored three or more goals in a game 11 times and has scored four or more goals in each of six contests.
Rix and Stanwick will lead the third-seeded Eagles against sixth-seeded Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship from Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Thursday at 3 p.m. (RSN/ESPN3).
