Men's Soccer Falls To Virginia, 1-0, in OT

Virginia's Brian James scored the match's only goal in the 98th minute as Cavaliers defeated Boston College, 1-0, on Friday night in an ACC conference game.
Boston College is now 7-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the ACC, while Virginia is 9-4-4 and 4-3-4 in the conference. The loss places BC in eighth place in the ACC and the Eagles will play at Maryland in the first round of the conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 15. UVA will play at Wake Forest in the tournament.
The Cavaliers held an 11-7 advantage in shots, including a 5-0 in the overtime. Virginia had five shots on goal, while BC had four.
Both sides had little chances in the first half as the Cavaliers and Eagles managed only two shots apiece. UVA managed the one shot on goal.
The second half was more up-tempo. Junior Diego Medina-Mendez led BC with two shots on goal late in the half. Virginia had three chances in the 66th minute but the Eagles defense held on. The Cavaliers also had two corner kick attempts in the final minute of the game. BC managed to prevent Virginia from getting a shot on goal off the corner kicks.
In the overtime, Virginia out-shot BC, 5-0. The Cavaliers finally struck for a goal in the 97th minute of the game. Virginia earned a free kick from 35 yards outside the box. James one-timed a deflected ball from Kevin McBride from six yards out to the near post for the win. It was the third goal of the year for James.
Cole DeNormandie and Medina-Mendez lead BC on offense with two shots apiece. Darius Madison had three shots for Virginia.
