Fitzgerald Named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - First-year forward Ryan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) reaped Boston College's first Hockey East award this season after picking up the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honor thanks to a strong performance against Northeastern this weekend.
Fitzgerald strung together his first goal-scoring streak as an Eagle, potting the game-winning marker in a 4-2 triumph over Northeastern on Friday at Kelley Rink. The following night, the 5-9 forward was all over the ice and eventually scored his third goal of the season.
The local product scored his first collegiate goal in a 7-2 triumph against Rensselaer on Oct. 13 and followed that with a pair of assist in a 9-2 beating of Wisconsin on Oct. 18.
On the national level, Fitzgerald is tied for 28th amongst all rookie skaters averaging 0.71 points per game. In comparison with the rest of Hockey East, he is tied for seventh. Fitzgerald is tied for fifth on Boston College with three goals and two assists through seven games played.
Fitzgerald joins Warrior Hockey Co-Players of the Week, Ross Mauermann (Providence) and Danny O'Regan (Boston University), Hockey East Co-Defensive Players of the Week Zack Kamrass (UMass Lowell) and Steve Mastalerz (Massachusetts). UMass Lowell was voted the Hockey East Team of the Week.
The Eagles weekend sweep of the Huskies included their first road victory of the 2013-14 season. Boston College will gear up for a Friday night showdown against cross-town rival Boston University on Friday, Nov. 8, at Agganis Arena. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. BC returns to Kelley Rink for a Sunday afternoon tilt against Army starting at 3 p.m.
