CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Ryan Anderson recorded game highs of 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Boston College men's basketball team past Sacred Heart in overtime, 75-67, on Tuesday night in Conte Forum.
Anderson was 8-for-13 from the floor and 12-for-14 from the foul line. He was one point shy of matching his career high. It was his 16th career double-double which ranks second in the ACC. Rahon scored 19 points and outscored the Pioneers in overtime, 9-6. He was 7-for-8 from the line. Sophomore Olivier Hanlan had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Sacred Heart was hot from the field to start the game, going 11-for-15 and hitting its first six 3-pointers. The Pioneers had a 17-14 lead and then scored the next seven points to build a 10-point lead at the 11:26 mark. Chris Evans had five of the points in the run.
The Pioneers kept the cushion the rest of the half, but Boston College cut the lead to 34-27 on the last possession when freshman Sam Donahue found classmate Garland Owens in the lane for a layup.
BC started the second half on a 10-2 run to earn its first lead of the game, 37-36. Hanlan had four of the points in that span. Regulation was tight the rest of the way. Sacred Heart had two leads of four points which was the largest down the stretch. Neither team scored in the last 2:48.
Rahon and the Eagles took over in the overtime period. Junior Lonnie Jackson opened the frame with a 3-pointer and BC stretched its lead to 71-63 with 1:23 left. Rahon scored five of the first 10 points in overtime. The Pioneers never got closer than six points.
Evans led Sacred Heart (1-5) with 18 points. Phil Gaetano scored 16 points and Steve Glowiak had 15.
Boston College (3-4) will take a week off for Thanksgiving and is back in action on Wednesday, December 4 at Purdue.
