Football Projected Fifth In 2012 ACC Atlantic Preseason Poll

Boston College football has been projected to finish fifth in the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division, according to a poll of media members assembled at the annual Football Kickoff at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
Florida State is the media's consensus choice to win the Atlantic Division and to defeat Virginia Tech, the preseason media favorite from the ACC Coastal Division, in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game. The Eagles and Seminoles are scheduled to meet on Oct. 13 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The Eagles are scheduled to host Virginia Tech on Nov. 17.
Clemson, with 470 points, was chosen to finish second in the Atlantic Division, followed by (in order): NC State (402), Wake Forest (241), Boston College (181) and Maryland (148).
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech, with 421 points, was projected to finish second in the Coastal Division, followed by (in order): North Carolina (341), Virginia (326), Miami (245) and Duke (104).
It marks the second straight season that the Seminoles are the consensus choice to win the Atlantic Division and defeat the Hokies in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game.
In other league news announced by the conference on Monday, Clemson sophomore wide receiver Sammy Watkins who set several conference freshman records in 2011, was the choice for ACC Preseason Player of the Year, finishing ahead of four quarterbacks - Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas, Florida State's EJ Manuel, NC State's Mike Glennon and Clemson's Tajh Boyd, who finished Nos. 2-4, respectively.
Boston College will kick off its 2012 season at home against Miami on Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. The game is televised regionally on ABC and nationally on ESPN2.
