Sarah Mendes Signs with BC

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sarah Mendes, a 6 ft. 1 in. outside hitter from Paraná, Brazil, will join the Boston College volleyball team for the 2012 season according to an announcement made by head coach Chris Campbell on Friday.
"Sarah will bring a wealth of experience and skill to the Boston College Volleyball program," Campbell said. "She is a versatile player capable of playing on the left, the right and passing in all six rotations. As one of the top players in one of the dominant volleyball countries in the world, I am sure that Sarah will help provide an immediate impact for 2012, and contribute significantly for the remainder of her career on the Heights."
Mendes was a three-time All-State selection at Colégio Positivo in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. She was a captain for five years, twice earning All-State honors for Best Attack. Mendes led her team to the Copa Providencia Championship, where she was also regarded as having the Best Serve of the Tournament. An active member of Brazil's Junior National Team player pool, she has been a finalist (top 18 player in the nation) for the U18 World Cup and South American Tournament teams.
Mendes competes for the Brazilian national championship beginning on Monday, April 23.
Paraná is a southern state of Brazil. Approximately 10.4 million Paranaense live in the state that borders the Atlantic Ocean, Argentina and Paraguay. Curitiba is its capital.
