Women's Tennis Downs Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1

Fort Myers, Fla. - The No. 37 Boston College women's tennis team defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1, on Monday at FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles (7-4) swept the doubles matches and earned five of six singles victories in straight sets over FGCU (3-4).
Juniors Olga Khmylev and Alex Kelleher, ranked 18th in the nation, defeated Morgan Bechtel and Marina Diez, 8-4, on court one, while junior Ina Kauppila and senior Katarina Gajic took down Sarah Means and Bettina Botha, 8-6, on court three. Court two was a close battle between freshman Jessica Wacnik and senior Erina Kikuchi and Gyanna Mandic and Jen Evans, but BC prevailed, 9-8 (7-4).
In singles action, Kelleher tallied the first victory of the afternoon, defeating Diez, 6-1, 6-0, on court three. Kikuchi beat Evans, 6-0, 6-1, on court two, while junior Kelly Barry earned a win over Mandic, 6-1, 6-3, on court six. In the No. 1 spot, Wacnik defeated Means, 6-3, 6-1, and Gajic beat Botha, 7-5, 6-0, in the No. 5 spot. The only loss came in the No. 4 spot as Khmylev fell is a battle to Bechtel, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 1-0 (14-12), losing the tiebreaker.
The Eagles return to the courts on March 7 at 2 p.m. to play No. 26 USF.
