Carpenter Selected as WHEA Rookie of the Month

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's ice hockey freshman center Alex Carpenter was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for the fourth time this season in an announcement made on Thursday afternoon by the league.
Carpenter produced four points in the month of March. The North Reading, Mass. native scored once and assisted another goal in her first conference playoff game, before going on to net goals in both NCAA Tournament games. The forward was second on the team with 14 shots during the postseason.
The Patty Kazmaier nominee finished the year with 12 points in the final eight games. With a team-leading 39 points, Carpenter became the first rookie to lead the Eagles in scoring since the 2006-07 season. Her 21 goals were third most ever by a freshman at BC.
In addition to being a nominated for college hockey's most prestigious award, Carpenter was also recognized by the Hockey East as a First-Team All-Star, a unanimous All-Rookie Team selection, a two-time Athletic Republic Player of the Week and the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on two occasions this season. This past week, the center was voted a New England All-Star by the Division I coaches and hockey writers in the region.
Classmate Emily Field was a runner-up for the monthly award. Field also produced three goals and an assist, while leading the team in shots (16) throughout the postseason. The Littleton, Mass. native scored just 57 seconds into the national semifinal against Wisconsin, the fastest goal of the year for BC. Field closed out the season with a four game scoring streak, having amassed 32 points (13g, 19a).
The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four for the second consecutive year, the first team in league history to do so. At 24-10-3, BC tied the program win mark set by the 2006-07 and 2010-11 units. The Maroon and Gold also established a school record for power play percentage (.185) by converting 30 of 162 opportunities.
